Mark Lortz directs the music program at Stevenson University and brings a dual expertise in composition and performance that shapes everything he writes. His work as a music editor for RWS Music Company, brass arranger for the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps, and conductor of ensembles ranging from community bands to the U.S. Army Field Band has given him a sophisticated understanding of what works on the podium and what resonates with audiences.

His compositions have earned recognition from ASCAP, Gramophone, and The Instrumentalist, while selections appear regularly on Bandworld's Top 100 and J.W. Pepper's Editor's Choice lists. Dr. Lortz holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Temple University and studied composition and percussion performance at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. In 2024, the Maryland Music Educators' Association named him an Outstanding Educator, acknowledging his sustained impact on music education.
