About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor whose work spans orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His compositions have been performed by ensembles ranging from professional symphony orchestras to elementary school programs in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. He is a recipient of the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light, and holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association.
As a conductor, Balmages maintains active guest conducting relationships with all-state and regional ensembles, university orchestras, and professional groups internationally. His appearances have included the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous state music education conferences. Music from his catalog was performed during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose for the inauguration of the institution's sixth president. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
