Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni. His background includes eight years as a rights and licenses administrator for a major educational music publisher, a role that gave him deep insight into how music educators work and what resources classrooms need most.

As a composer, Althouse has published over 800 choral works performed across the English-speaking world and maintains membership in ASCAP, earning regular recognition through the ASCAP Special Award. Beyond composition, he has authored and co-authored numerous resources for music classrooms and rehearsal rooms, including The Complete Choral Warm-up Book and Accent on Composers. He serves on the National Advisory Board of the Folk Art Society of America and has contributed articles to its quarterly publication.
