About the Composer: Janet Gardner

Janet Gardner studied music education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and spent 33 years teaching elementary general music in Montevideo, Minnesota. During her teaching career, she presented workshops at state universities, served as a clinician at state music conventions, and earned recognition as the 1995 Minnesota Music Classroom Teacher of the Year. She chaired the Minnesota Elementary Composition Contest for six years and was invited to lead composition clinics throughout the United States and Canada.

Gardner has composed numerous musicals and choral works for Alfred Music, drawing on her deep experience with young singers and ensemble development. Her catalog includes stage works such as Bones!, Broadway Santa, and The Phantom of the Music Room, along with choral pieces that reflect her gift for accessible, engaging writing. Since retiring from classroom teaching in 2006, she has continued composing from her home in Montevideo, where she remains active as a church musician and arts advocate. Her work has been recognized annually through ASCAP awards.
