Description
This gently flowing solo recreates the mist of a gentle waterfall. It takes the performer from the key of E minor in the opening to G major in the final measures of the piece. In between, the cascading of the water is depicted in 4/4 meter through a descending left hand bass line, the sweep of arpeggios with the left hand crossing over the right and a lyrical melody balanced by a graceful jump bass accompaniment. All of these elements combine to provide a musical learning experience for the student and a beautiful performance for the listener.

Martha Mier

Martha Mier has shaped piano pedagogy for decades through her work as both a composer and clinician. Since joining Alfred Music Publishing in 1989, she has authored more than 200 educational publications while maintaining deep roots in the teaching community through her former studio in Lake City, Florida, her church music work, and her professional accompaniment. She holds certification through the Music Teachers National Association, the Florida State Music Teachers Association, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and regularly conducts workshops and adjudication at major conferences including the World Piano Pedagogy Conference and state MTA conventions.

Her compositions span multiple styles and levels, from the Jazz, Rags & Blues series to Romantic Impressions, making her one of the most widely performed educational composers in the world. A graduate of Florida State University and member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Mier has seen her work selected repeatedly for the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival Bulletin. She also serves as co-author of Alfred's Premier Piano Course, a curriculum that reflects her decades of studio experience and pedagogical insight.
