It's so flexible with optional solo spots, varied tempos, changing keys, and unexpected harmonies, you'll never find another that's more entertaining. Why we love this

This medley moves beyond predictable carol arrangements through unexpected harmonic choices, tempo variety, and key shifts that keep both singers and audiences engaged. The optional solo spots let you feature strong voices without disrupting the ensemble texture, while the flexible accompaniment options (piano, recorded tracks, or a playable band arrangement) mean you can adapt this to your actual resources rather than forcing a specific instrumentation.

What to expect

Fresh and propulsive, this arrangement keeps the warmth of beloved carols while injecting rhythmic energy and harmonic color that surprises the ear. You'll find yourself moving through nine songs without the medley feeling scattered, as if each carol opens a new door to the next.

Who it's for

SATB choirs performing holiday programs need this medley because it delivers familiar material with enough musical personality to hold the attention of singers who've performed these carols before. Directors can program it at multiple ability levels by selecting which solos to use, which accompaniment format fits the rehearsal schedule, and how many carols to include in performance.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the transitions between carols by anchoring each new section with a confident tempo entrance from the rhythm section; the recorded accompaniment can help establish this consistency during rehearsal.
  • Highlight the unexpected harmonies in the arrangement rather than smoothing them over, as these are the moments that distinguish the medley from standard carol books.
  • If using optional solos, prepare singers to manage the shift in focus and blend; rehearse solo sections with the full ensemble present so transitions feel seamless.
  • Attend to the key changes by allowing a brief breath or musical gesture to mark each modulation, making the journey through different tonal centers feel intentional rather than jarring.

How to use it

Place this as a closing piece on a holiday concert to end the evening with joy and recognition, or use it as an opener to set a celebratory tone. It's substantial enough (16 pages) to anchor a concert slot on its own, yet compact enough to pair with a longer featured work without overwhelming a program.

Skills your students will build

  • Balancing individual solo lines with ensemble blend
  • Executing confident tempo changes and musical transitions
