About the Arranger: Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus. His career spans both the publishing world, where he spent eight years managing rights and licenses and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America, and composition, where he has created over 800 choral works performed widely across English-speaking countries.

As a writer member of ASCAP, Althouse has received multiple Special Awards for his contributions to standard music repertoire. Beyond composing, he has co-created children's musicals with his wife Sally K. Albrecht, edited respected vocal solo collections including Folk Songs for Solo Singers, and authored numerous educational resources such as The Complete Choral Warm-up Book, Accent on Composers, and classroom materials for music literacy. His work has reached national stages: he co-wrote I Hear America Singing, performed by the San Francisco Girls and Boys Choirs at President Obama's 2009 Inauguration. Althouse serves on the National Advisory Board of the Folk Art Society of America and resides in North Carolina.
