About the Author: Maurice Hinson

Maurice Hinson stands as one of the foremost scholars of piano literature in America. His recognition includes the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Music Teachers National Association (1994), the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Florida (1990), and the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Michigan (1995). His expertise in American piano music has shaped the field; his contributions appear in the New Grove Dictionary of American Music.

Hinson earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida and both his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Michigan, with additional study at The Juilliard School and the Conservatoire National in Nancy, France. During his tenure as Senior Professor of Piano at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, he taught piano, piano literature, and chamber music while performing, lecturing, and conducting masterclasses internationally. His published works and editions have become foundational resources in piano studios worldwide.
