About the Author: Gayle Kowalchyk

Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk holds degrees in piano performance and pedagogy from Ohio University, Northwestern University, and Teachers College, Columbia University (Ed.D., 1989). She has served on the faculty at Eastern Illinois University, Oklahoma Baptist University, the University of Oklahoma, and currently teaches class piano and piano pedagogy at California State University, Northridge. A nationally recognized clinician and adjudicator, she has presented at conventions of the Music Teachers National Association, Music Educators National Conference, and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference.

With her husband Dr. E. L. Lancaster, Kowalchyk has authored more than 300 educational piano publications, including Alfred's Premier Piano Course and Music for Little Mozarts. She and Lancaster operated an independent piano studio in Norman, Oklahoma from 1981 to 1996, teaching students across all age groups and levels. She now serves as a clinician for Alfred Music in the Los Angeles area.
