Dave Black is a percussionist and composer whose work has shaped music education for decades. A graduate of California State University, Northridge with a degree in percussion performance, he has performed and recorded internationally across genres and venues. His prolific output includes over 60 published compositions and arrangements with major publishers, many of which have been recorded commercially.

Black's influence extends far beyond the concert hall. He holds 26 consecutive ASCAP Popular Composer Awards, two GRAMMY Award participation certificates, the Percussive Arts Society President's Industry Award, and a certified Gold Record for Alfred's Drum Method, Book 1. As author or co-author of more than 30 instructional books, his materials have sold over two million copies worldwide and appear regularly in educational settings and professional productions, including the film Drumline.
