About the Composer: Bob Phillips
Bob Phillips is a composer, educator, and conductor who has shaped string education through both large-scale pedagogical innovations and prolific original works. Since the 1980s, he has authored over 25 instructional series for strings (including Sound Innovations across all six levels) and pioneered eclectic style publications like Fiddlers Philharmonic, Jazz Philharmonic, and Rock Philharmonic, all of which are performed by thousands of students annually. His catalogue includes more than 200 published works for orchestra and band, and he is an award-winning ASCAP composer whose pieces regularly appear at the Midwest Clinic.
Phillips spent 27 years building the string program in Saline, Michigan, which grew to over 700 students and became a national model for excellence across classical and contemporary genres. He founded and directed the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, an ensemble that performed more than 80 shows annually and appeared at the White House and major conferences. His influence extends through conducting roles at youth symphonies, all-state orchestras, and summer camps nationwide, as well as 12 years as resident conductor and arranger for the Wintergrass Festival in Seattle.
