Know the Orchestra: Tom the Piper

Each story in this series develops understanding of a section of the orchestra. Children are introduced to basic rhythms, musical styles and musical structure. Each multimedia set contains: a full-color picture storybook, a cassette, a video or full-color filmstrip with cassette, a Meet the Instruments study print set (20 prints), a guessing game produced on photocopy master (5 copies), and a teacher's instructional leaflet. Tom the Piper presents the woodwind section of the orchestra with compositions planned for creative movement. The story and the musical sequence lend themselves to a dance performance.
