About the Composer: Andrew Bruhn

Andrew Bruhn brings a rare combination of conducting, composition, and performance expertise to his work in music education. As Director of Choral Music at Rockford Christian Schools, he teaches across grade levels 6-12 while also serving as choir director at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford, Illinois. His graduate training in choral conducting at Luther Seminary and St. Olaf College included study with Anton Armstrong, Christopher Aspaas, and Mark Stover. He studied composition with David Cherwien and Alice Parker, two major voices in American choral music.

Bruhn's compositions have earned recognition from the Illinois American Choral Directors Association (2017 Composition Contest winner) and the American Prize in Choral Composition (semi-finalist, 2019). His music appears through major publishers including Choristers Guild, GIA, Alfred Music, Carl Fischer, and Paraclete Press, and is performed by ensembles from elementary through university level. His school choirs consistently earn superior ratings in festivals and have been featured at the Illinois Music Education Conference. As a trumpeter, he has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
