Description
For the first time ever, Kenny's best-selling videos Power Workout 1 and 2 are combined on one DVD. Power Workout: Complete covers the warm-up routines Kenny has developed over years of playing. Focusing on bass drum playing, syncopation and independence, Kenny breaks down each workout to its most basic level. These workouts will not only loosen up your limbs, they'll also build your chops and endurance, strengthen your independence on all four limbs, and focus your concentration.

The DVD includes nearly 30 minutes of special features including exclusive footage of Kenny's drum solos while on tour with Melissa Etheridge, his 2004 drum clinic from Canada, his 2002 drum clinic in Massachusetts, his 1994 solo from "BFB," live-in-concert footage with the Bodeans, a photo gallery, printable PDF files of all the onscreen examples, and much more.

"What you get here is a complete package that will not only increase chops and strength, but help you compete in the first Drum Olympics, if such a thing ever gets invented. Be warned though, it's not for the faint-hearted!"
- Paul Burke, Rhythm Magazine

About the Artist: Kenny Aronoff

Kenny Aronoff

Kenny Aronoff stands among rock music's most sought-after drummers, having anchored the sound of John Mellencamp for 17 years while simultaneously building one of the most prolific session careers in modern music. His recordings span hundreds of albums with artists including The Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette, Bob Seger, Melissa Etheridge, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Elton John, Bob Dylan, and many others; he has played on over 30 Grammy-nominated recordings and was named Modern Drummer magazine's No. 1 Pop/Rock Drummer and No. 1 Studio Drummer for five consecutive years.

Originally trained in classical percussion at Indiana University's School of Music, Aronoff chose the drumset over orchestral timpani positions after graduating in 1976. His combination of power and precision transformed the rock records of his generation. Beyond his studio and touring work, he has become a respected clinician and served as Associate Professor of Music at Indiana University, sharing the systematic approach to technique and endurance that defined his own playing.

Why we love this

Kenny's teaching approach strips away mystique and shows drummers exactly how to build chops methodically. This DVD captures a working session musician's daily fundamentals, not flashy tricks; you're learning the routines that kept him fresh through hundreds of sessions and international tours with top artists.

What to expect

The workouts build from simple, meditative patterns into surprising coordination challenges that expose gaps in your independence. By the end, your hands and feet feel connected in new ways, and your concentration sharpens noticeably.

Who it's for

This DVD serves drummers serious about developing the endurance, coordination, and focus that professional session work demands. It's for players ready to commit to structured, intelligent practice rather than casual noodling.

How to get the most out of it

  • Start with Kenny's warm-up sequences exactly as demonstrated before each practice session; consistency matters more than speed, and these routines prepare your body for the demands ahead.
  • Use the printable PDF transcriptions to internalize the patterns away from the kit; understanding the sticking and independence exercises on paper accelerates your coordination gains.
  • Focus on the bass drum independence work in isolation first; the goal is limb freedom, not cramming all four limbs together before they're ready.
  • Return to the syncopation exercises weekly, not just once; these are designed to deepen over time, and the independence gains compound with repeated exposure.

How to use it

Use the live performance footage and clinic segments to inspire ensemble drummers during sectional rehearsals, showing them what serious technique development looks like in the hands of a working professional. The warm-up material also makes an excellent foundation for a dedicated drumset curriculum if you're building one.

Skills your students will build

  • Bass drum control and independence from upper limbs
  • Syncopated rhythmic patterns and displacement
  • Four-limb coordination and cross-stick freedom
  • Physical endurance and stamina at the drumset
  • Focused, deliberate practice methodology
