She taught choral music across all levels in public schools for seven years, then moved into higher education where she taught choral pedagogy and literature for twelve years. Her deep experience in the classroom shaped her compositional voice.

Rentz's catalog reflects her understanding of what works in rehearsal and performance. She has published over 700 choral works with 17 different publishers and has been invited to conduct All-State Choirs in Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Alabama.
