About the Composer: Scott Watson

Scott Watson has spent four decades shaping young musicians as an instrumental director and educator in the Parkland School District (Allentown, PA), where he led the high school band program and later coordinated the elementary band and strings curriculum across multiple schools. Now Associate Professor of Music at Cairn University, Watson brings the perspective of a working classroom teacher to his compositional voice, which draws equally from contemporary concert music and the vernacular of the band world. His more than 120 published works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles span all grade levels and have been performed internationally and at venues including the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, and the White House.

Watson is an exclusive composer and clinician for Alfred Publications and serves as a frequent guest conductor for honor bands and festivals. Beyond composition, he has authored the text Using Technology to Unlock Musical Creativity (Oxford University Press, 2011) and regularly leads workshops and clinics for music educators, demonstrating his commitment to the craft of teaching itself.
