William Owens has spent decades shaping young musicians as both an educator and composer. Born in Gary, Indiana, he earned his degree from VanderCook College of Music and taught band in Texas for 30 years before retiring in 2014. His catalog now exceeds 300 works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles, many of which appear on state required music lists and have become teaching staples.

Owens brings a pragmatic sensibility to his writing for developing ensembles, balancing musical substance with accessibility. His compositions have earned recognition from the American Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu International, and the Texas Bandmasters Association. He holds membership in ASCAP and remains active as a clinician and conductor throughout North America.
