About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built a reputation as a composer and conductor equally at home in orchestral, band, and chamber music contexts. His works have appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.

As a conductor, Balmages maintains regular engagements with all-state and university ensembles worldwide, with notable guest appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and the College Band Directors Conference. He is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and has received commissions from major institutions including the University of Miami. Currently, he leads MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
