About the Composer: Mary Donnelly

Mary Donnelly grew up in Reno, Nevada, and studied English and French at the University of Nevada before discovering her passion for music education during her undergraduate years. She went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she focused on integrating arts across the curriculum. For three decades, she taught general music and choir in the Washoe County School District, serving elementary and middle school students while remaining active in ACDA, NEA, and ASCAP.

In 1985, Donnelly began a prolific collaboration with George Strid when their principal asked them to co-write a musical for Reading Week at their school. That first project, The Million Dollar Mystery, sparked a partnership that has produced over two hundred songs and twenty-five musicals. The team's work blends accessible pedagogy with genuine humor, creating pieces that energize young singers and delight audiences.
