About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales was born in New York City in 1966 and has established himself as a prolific composer working across classical, jazz, and commercial idioms. His catalogue exceeds 150 published works spanning wind ensembles, orchestras, jazz groups, and chamber settings, with performances documented globally. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989 after studying composition at Florida International University, and began his professional career arranging for a high school marching band in south Florida in 1985.

Morales brings particular depth to the trumpet repertoire, having studied trumpet as his primary instrument and earning recognition for his trumpet ensemble writing at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions. His Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild conference, followed by a consortium-commissioned Concerto for Two Trumpets in 2013. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame. His work consistently balances artistic substance with pedagogical integrity, making him a valued voice in educational music publishing.
