About the Arranger: Robert DeCormier

Robert DeCormier brought Juilliard training and Broadway experience into a lifetime of choral leadership. His seventeen years directing the New York Choral Society, his role as conductor and arranger for Harry Belafonte, and his decades with Peter, Paul and Mary shaped him into one of America's most respected voices in folk and spiritual music. He taught conducting at Eastman, founded the professional vocal ensemble Counterpoint in 2000, and mentored high school choirs across Vermont and beyond.

DeCormier's gift lay in arranging across genres, African-American spirituals, American folk songs, international repertoire, with an ear for both authenticity and accessibility. His recordings span classical labels from Arabesque to Centaur; his television work earned him a CBS Emmy. In 2002, Vermont honored him with the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, and in 2006 the New England Choral Arts Foundation named him a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
