About the Arranger: Roy Phillippe

Roy Phillippe grew up in Cleveland and earned his Bachelor of Music from Kent State University, where he pursued advanced studies in composition, arranging, and orchestration under Phil Rizzo, a key theorist in the Stan Kenton Jazz Orchestra in Residence program. His career took him to Los Angeles, where he has spent decades writing arrangements for film, television, and concert settings. His work has been recorded and performed by Count Basie, L.A. Express, the Everett Symphony, and the Young Musician's Foundation Debut Orchestra, among many others.

Phillippe's published arrangements and original compositions for jazz ensemble, orchestra, and concert band are performed by student and professional musicians worldwide. He served as executive secretary of the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers and maintains active affiliations with ASCAP, NARAS, and the Jazz Education Network. His expertise spans not just arranging but also music education and publishing.
