About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has built a career as a composer and conductor with deep roots across orchestral, band, and chamber repertoire. His works have appeared on stages ranging from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles spanning from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association and received the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award from James Madison University's School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Balmages maintains an active conducting schedule with all-state and regional ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide. He has guest conducted at major conferences including the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and state ASTA conferences. His music was performed during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he has served commissions from major institutions including the University of Miami for its presidential inauguration. Currently, he directs MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
