About the Composer: Deborah Baker Monday

Deborah Baker Monday spent 25 years leading the Logan City orchestra program, an award-winning ensemble that shaped generations of young string players. She earned her B.M.E. magna cum laude from Florida State University with a focus on string pedagogy, then pursued advanced study in composition at the University of Alabama and doctoral coursework at Louisiana State University, where she studied with composers including Paul Hedwall and Dinos Constantinides.

Now retired from full-time teaching, Monday remains deeply engaged in music education as a guest clinician, conductor, and supervisor. She has published over 130 works with seven publishing companies, with a particular focus on accessible string arrangements and original compositions for young ensembles. Her contributions to string education have earned her recognition including the UtahASTA Composition Competition awards (2006 and 2011) and accolades for outstanding teaching. She regularly presents at state and national conferences, adjudicates festivals, and accepts commissions for educational string works.
