About the Composer: Gary Fagan
Gary Fagan brings three decades of classroom experience and a proven track record as both educator and composer. A Virginia native with degrees in music education from Bridgewater College and composition/arranging from James Madison University, Fagan spent 36 years directing bands in Albemarle County schools before transitioning to university supervision and adjunct teaching at JMU. His work has reached audiences at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the White House, and gubernatorial ceremonies, earning him recognition as Central Virginia's Outstanding Middle School Teacher and multiple awards from state arts councils and the Virginia Governor's School.
Active as a clinician, adjudicator, and performer with the Charlottesville Band, Fagan remains deeply engaged with the music education community through MENC, the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and professional organizations including the National Band Association and Phi Beta Mu. His compositions and arrangements for band and string orchestra draw on his intimate understanding of what students can accomplish and what teachers need in the rehearsal room.
