About the Composer: Mike Collins-Dowden

Mike Collins-Dowden brings two decades of classroom experience to his compositions. Since 2007, he has directed band at Pleasant Ridge School in Glenview, Illinois, where he works daily with the exact students who will perform his music. His formal training includes a B.M. in music education and trombone performance from the Eastman School of Music (2003) and an M.M. in music education from Temple University (2007). He performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble during their 2004 Japan tour.

Collins-Dowden has published more than 30 pieces across Alfred/Belwin, FJH, and Jalen Music, with a consistent focus on writing for young bands and jazz ensembles. His compositions emerge from real rehearsal needs and genuine knowledge of what engages 4th and 5th grade musicians. When teaching schedules permit, he performs on trombone and guitar.
