John Kinyon earned degrees from Ithaca College and the Eastman School of Music, along with an honorary doctorate from Limestone College in South Carolina. His career spans instrumental music direction, music department administration in multiple school districts, educational leadership at Warner Brothers Music in New York, and music education faculty work at the University of Miami.
Kinyon is recognized for writing accessible educational music across a wide range of styles. Over the course of his career, he has published more than 250 original compositions for Alfred Music, including marches, ballads, and overtures that span Grade 1 through Grade 3 difficulty levels. Since 1982, he has continued composing from his home in Tuckasegee, North Carolina.
