About the Composer: Erik Morales
Erik Morales composes across multiple genres and ensemble types, from wind and orchestral works to jazz and chamber music. Since his educational publications began appearing worldwide in 2002, he has created over 150 works that deliberately balance artistic merit with pedagogical value. His early career took shape in south Florida, where a former band director's commissioning work in 1985 launched him into the educational publishing world after he finished high school.
Morales studied composition at Florida International University and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1989). His contributions to trumpet literature are particularly notable; his trumpet ensembles have won first place at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions, and his Concerto for Two Trumpets was premiered at the 2013 ITG Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame.
