About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has established himself as a versatile composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber idioms. His works have been performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to school groups in world-class venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Sydney Opera House. He holds the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light, and serves as an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association.

Balmages has received commissions from major institutions and was honored with the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award. His music was featured during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he maintains an active guest conducting schedule with all-state ensembles, university groups, and regional bands internationally. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
