Douglas E. Wagner grew up in Chicago and studied music at Butler University, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees. He spent three decades as a high school music director and administrator before committing fully to composition in the early 2000s.

Since 1973, Wagner has created more than 3,500 works across multiple genres: concert band, choir, orchestra, handbell ensemble, organ, piano, and voice. His music has reached audiences globally through concert performances, radio broadcasts, and television programming. Over 17 million copies of his compositions have been purchased by music educators and performers worldwide. He currently lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Sandy.
