About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built an international reputation as a composer and conductor working fluidly across orchestral, band, and chamber idioms. His compositions have reached audiences from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association, received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.

As a guest conductor, Balmages regularly leads all-state and university ensembles across North America, Europe, and Australia, with appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous regional conferences. His work has been performed at significant national events, including the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
