About the Composer: Gary Fagan

Gary Fagan is a Virginia-based composer and educator whose works have reached audiences across the country and abroad, from the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic to performances at the White House and gubernatorial ceremonies. He earned his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Bridgewater College and completed his master's degree at James Madison University, where he later served as an adjunct faculty member teaching arranging and currently works as a University Supervisor.

Fagan spent 36 years as a band director in Albemarle County before transitioning to university work and active clinician roles. His contributions to music education have been recognized with multiple honors, including Central Virginia Outstanding Middle School Teacher, awards from the Virginia Governor's School for the Visual and Performing Arts and the Piedmont Council of the Arts, and two listings in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." He remains deeply involved in the music education community through MENC and the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, holds membership in ASCAP and the National Band Association, and currently performs as a percussionist and Assistant Director with the Charlottesville Band.
