Why we love this

This set cuts through the endless array of warm-up options by offering a streamlined, repeatable structure that students can master and trust. The concise theoretical explanations mean you're not re-teaching the same concepts every week; instead, students develop ownership of their preparation. Each page rewards consistent, focused practice with tangible progress toward audition and contest readiness.

What to expect

Systematic and manageable. Rather than overwhelming students with options, this book delivers focused exercises that feel purposeful from the first page. The combination of theory and practice creates clarity; students understand not just what to play but why it matters.

Who it's for

Studio teachers preparing students for auditions and festivals, class piano instructors building technical fundamentals, and any pianist looking for a reliable daily warm-up routine rooted in proven pedagogy. Students benefit from the clear structure whether they are beginners establishing technique or advancing players refining consistency.

How to get the most out of it

  • Assign a specific five-finger pattern or scale for each week and return to it consistently; repetition builds finger independence and muscle memory more effectively than sampling everything at once.
  • Pair the cadence exercises with repertoire your students are currently learning to reinforce harmonic listening and voice leading in a practical context.
  • Have students practice the arpeggios slowly enough to hear each note distinctly before increasing tempo; this builds accuracy and control that transfers directly to audition passages.

How to use it

Integrate this as a prerequisite warm-up in audition preparation units during fall and spring seasons. The 16-page format makes it ideal for assigning one or two exercises per lesson, allowing students to build technique progressively without requiring practice time beyond their regular repertoire work.

Skills your students will build

  • Five-finger pattern fluency in multiple keys
  • Major and minor scale facility with consistent finger articulation
  • Arpeggio patterns across the keyboard
  • Harmonic function through cadence recognition and voice leading
  • Key signature identification and transposition awareness
