Robert Sheldon's output dominates the wind band repertoire. His works appear on state contest lists and honor band programs across the country, and his compositions have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, the Kennedy Center, and venues around the world. He has earned recognition from the American School Band Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu, and ASCAP for his contributions to the field.

Beyond composing, Sheldon serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician. He has worked with All-State and Regional Honor Bands, presented at universities and state music education conferences, and conducted in countries including Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music granted him an honorary doctorate.
