About the Composer: Timothy Loest

Timothy Loest has spent over thirty years in the middle school classroom while simultaneously building a national reputation as a composer whose works reach thousands of young musicians annually. His output spans multiple publishers, from Warner Bros. to FJH to his own Fanfare Music Press, founded in 2022, and his influence extends beyond concert halls into television, including appearances on The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, and Nick Jr. In 2017, Chicago's Millennium Park hosted a performance of his composition Cloud Gate before an audience of over 5,000, the same year he received the Illinois Grade School Music Association's highest honor, the Cloyd Myers Memorial Award for Excellence in Music Education.

Loest's pedagogical fingerprint appears across several widely adopted band methods: Measures of Success, Warm-ups and Beyond, Rhythms and Beyond, and Chorales and Beyond. His gift lies in understanding what young musicians need to learn and what will genuinely excite them to play. A graduate of Illinois State University and Northwestern University, he holds membership in ASCAP and currently accepts commissions for band through his website.
