Description
Aura Lee and Dixie have been popular melodies since the mid-nineteenth century. Aura Lee has been sung at the West Point Military Academy since before the Civil War and became more popular after it was recorded in the 1960's by Elvis Presley as Love Me Tender. Dixie was composed in 1859 by Daniel Emmett of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and became a favorite of Confederate troops during the Civil War.
