About the Composer: Jack Wilds
Jack Wilds composes music across an expansive age range, from elementary children's choirs through professional ensembles. His works draw inspiration from visual art, philosophy, poetry, and musical tradition to create pieces that meet performers at their level while pushing toward genuine artistry. Chamber works by Wilds have been performed by the Attacca Quartet, members of the New York Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony, and ensembles at the University of Texas, while his compositions appear on festival required lists across multiple continents.
Wilds brings direct teaching experience to his writing, having spent years as a public school band director before joining the faculty at Texas State University, where he teaches composition, theory, ear training, and music technology. He serves as Co-Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in San Marcos and remains active as a clinician and adjudicator. His output for developing musicians includes over 40 publications for wind band and choir, with regular performances at major conferences including the Midwest Clinic.
