About the Composer: Elena Roussanova Lucas

Elena Roussanova Lucas grew up in Moscow, where she entered the prestigious Central Music School's child prodigy program at age three. She went on to study at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music College and the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire of Moscow, earning a Red Diploma in Composition, Music Theory, Music History, and Instrumentation under the mentorship of Tihon Khrennikov and Tatiana Choodova.

A member of the United Russian Composers Union, Lucas has had her compositions performed by major Russian ensembles including The Tchaikovsky State Orchestra of Moscow and The Radio and TV Orchestra of Moscow, as well as by international soloists and chamber groups. As a pianist, she won First Prize in a Russia-wide competition sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Culture and has performed throughout Moscow, Western Europe, and the United States. She has taught at Boston University.
