About the Composer: Edmund J. Siennicki

Edmund J. Siennicki grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where at age 12 he met the legendary pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski, a conversation that shaped his artistic direction for decades to come. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Kent State University, where he composed the school's fight song (still performed at football games today), and an MA from Teachers College, Columbia University. His composition studies included work with Herbert Elwell and consultation with Vincent Persichetti, while he also explored electronic music with Sergio Barroso.

As a performer, Siennicki played bassoon and piano professionally. His compositions have earned recognition in the National School Orchestra composition contests, and he spent two separate residencies at the MacDowell Colony. With roughly 200 works in print and two decades of ASCAP awards, his catalog reflects a deep commitment to music education. He taught in Cleveland's junior high schools and held faculty positions at Michigan and Kent State University, while continuing to compose, conduct clinics, and visit schools throughout his career.
