About the Composer: William Owens

William Owens has spent more than three decades at the intersection of teaching and composing, establishing himself as one of the most prolific and practical voices in young band music. A 1985 graduate of VanderCook College of Music, he has amassed over 300 published works since 1993 and earned recognition from the American Bandmasters Association, ASCAP, and his alma mater as a Distinguished Alumnus. His compositions regularly appear on state required lists and in educational texts, a testament to their pedagogical integrity and musical substance.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Owens brings decades of classroom experience to his writing. After 30 years directing bands in Texas schools, he retired in 2014 to focus on composition and clinician work across North America. His background as an educator shapes every phrase he writes, pieces that sound terrific, sit well in young hands, and teach something real about musicianship.
