Why we love this

Althouse crafts the kind of arrangement that sounds immediately engaging without requiring extensive rehearsal time. The salsa rhythm sits naturally in the voices, the bilingual text keeps engagement high, and TB voicing opens this piece to a wider range of school choirs without sacrificing the infectious energy that makes it memorable.

What to expect

Bright, rhythmically propulsive, and full of forward motion. The salsa groove gives the piece an irresistible momentum, while the blend of English and Spanish creates an inviting, inclusive feel that energizes any room.

Who it's for

TB choirs in middle and high schools seeking accessible yet sophisticated multicultural repertoire. Directors want pieces that connect students to Latin music traditions and world languages without requiring prior experience in either area.

How to get the most out of it

  • Lock the rhythmic pulse early in rehearsal. The syncopated melodic line depends on a solid, confident foundation from the rhythm section and full ensemble.
  • Pronounce the Spanish phrases with authentic vowels and clear consonants. The recorded accompaniment models the inflection and energy you're aiming for.
  • Balance the treble and lower voices so neither part overwhelms; the interlocking rhythms need both lines to shine equally.
  • Keep the energy sustained through the repetition. These phrases return multiple times, so commit to dynamic variety and ensemble cohesion rather than letting momentum dip.

How to use it

Program this as an opener or mid-concert lift on concerts celebrating diversity or world music. Its short length and high-energy character make it ideal for pops concerts, festival appearances, or combined choir performances where you want to shift the mood and showcase range.

Skills your students will build

  • Singing with authentic Spanish pronunciation and inflection
  • Balancing independent vocal lines in TB voicing
  • Sustaining ensemble cohesion through repetitive, rhythmically driven passages
  • Performing with stylistic energy and cultural awareness
