Bert Ligon directs the jazz studies program at the University of South Carolina, where he teaches improvisation, jazz theory, arranging, and applied lessons while coordinating the jazz combos and big bands. His published works span big band, orchestra, jazz combo, steel band, and jazz strings; he has also authored three books on jazz harmony and technique and released a recorded jazz trio featuring his own piano playing alongside Martin Norgaard on violin and Renata Bratt on cello.
