About the Composer: Erik Morales
Erik Morales brings a craftsman's sensibility to educational music across multiple genres. Born in New York City in 1966, he began composing professionally while still in high school, arranging for a Florida marching band in 1985. He holds degrees from Florida International University and the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1989), and has since published over 150 works for wind, orchestral, jazz, and chamber ensembles performed worldwide.
Morales is known for striking a deliberate balance between artistic integrity and pedagogical purpose. His trumpet works, supported by his own performing background on the instrument, have garnered recognition at the National Trumpet Competitions and the International Trumpet Guild conferences. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame, cementing his role as a significant voice in contemporary jazz education.
