About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims is a composer, conductor, educator, and trombonist born in Seattle in 2000. His work has appeared at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, while also winning honors in the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest. He regularly conducts performances of his own music across Maryland schools and maintains an active performance schedule as a trombonist in orchestral, jazz, and band settings.

Currently a student at The University of Maryland pursuing dual degrees in Music Education and Composition, Sims studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and has learned from world-renowned composer Brian Balmages. As a trombonist, he has performed in the Maryland All-State Band and shared the stage with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. His mentors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson, along with his principal trombone teacher Matthew Guilford of the National Symphony Orchestra, have shaped his development as both musician and composer.
