About the Composer: Mark Williams

Mark Williams shaped generations of young musicians through his prolific output for school bands and orchestras, composing over 200 works that remain staples in rehearsal rooms across North America and beyond. His deep roots in elementary band education, combined with extensive travels as a clinician and guest conductor to 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia, gave him an intimate understanding of what student musicians need to play and what directors need to teach.

A Chicago native who spent formative years in Spokane, Washington, Williams brought multifaceted musicianship to his compositions. He held degrees from Eastern Washington University, performed bassoon with the 560th Air Force Band, and served as conductor and artistic director for the Spokane British Brass Band. His contributions earned recognition including the Western International Band Clinic's Gralia Competition and multiple ASCAP Special Awards. Williams co-authored the Accent on Achievement Band Method, a resource that continues to guide instrumental instruction today.
