About the Composer: Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was later honored as a Distinguished Alumnus. His career spans both publishing and composition; he spent eight years as a rights and licenses administrator at a major educational music publisher and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America during that tenure.

With over 800 choral works in print, Althouse has established himself as one of the most prolific voices in American choral music. His output ranges across all skill levels and contexts, from children's musicals co-written with Sally K. Albrecht to pedagogical resources like The Complete Choral Warm-up Book and Accent on Composers. He is an ASCAP writer member and a regular recipient of their Special Award. Among his most prominent collaborative efforts is I Hear America Singing, performed by the San Francisco Girls and Boys Choirs at President Obama's 2009 Inauguration. Althouse currently serves on the National Advisory Board of the Folk Art Society of America and resides in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
