Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor equally at home in orchestral, band, and chamber music contexts. His works have reached audiences in prestigious venues worldwide, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles spanning professional orchestras to elementary school bands. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association and received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, along with winning the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest.

Beyond composition, Balmages maintains an active conducting schedule with all-state and university ensembles internationally, with guest appearances at the Midwest Clinic, College Band Directors Conference, and numerous regional conferences. His work has been performed at significant national events, including the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. Currently serving as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic, he continues to shape music education at the institutional level.
