Douglas E. Wagner studied composition and music education at Butler University, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees. He spent three decades in the high school classroom as an educator and administrator before transitioning to full-time composition work.

Since 1973, Wagner has published more than 3,500 compositions across every conceivable ensemble type: concert band, choir, orchestra, handbells, organ, and voice. His catalog has sold well over seventeen million copies and appears regularly in concert halls, on radio broadcasts, and in performances worldwide. He now lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Sandy.
