Why we love this
Althouse has designed this setting specifically for choirs still building their blend and confidence. The comfortable ranges and straightforward harmonies mean your singers can focus on musicality and ensemble balance rather than wrestling with technique, which makes this an efficient rehearsal choice for directors juggling multiple pieces.
What to expect
Warmth and celebration wrapped in straightforward clarity. The text lands naturally, the harmony never feels dumbed down, and the calypso pulse brings lightness to a timeless affirmation. It feels like a piece singers want to sing again.
Who it's for
Developing SAB choirs that need a piece ready quickly without sacrificing musicality or fun. This works equally well for high school and middle school singers, or adult community choirs seeking accessible sacred repertoire.
How to get the most out of it
- Let the calypso-esque SoundTrax drive the groove rather than fighting against it; the rhythmic character works best when singers feel the lift rather than forcing precision over the accompaniment.
- Open rehearsal with this as a warm-up to center voices and establish musicality before tackling more challenging repertoire, then transition into concert performance mode without resetting the energy.
- Keep vowel shapes consistent across the three parts so the harmonies lock cleanly; the simplicity of the writing means blend issues will read immediately.
How to use it
Slot this into a concert as a flexible standalone moment, or use it to bookend a more demanding sacred section. Its accessibility makes it ideal for spring concerts or year-round worship settings where you want strong execution without extended rehearsal investment.
Skills your students will build
- Singing three-part SAB voicing with even blend
- Sustaining pitch on Alleluia text with clear vowels
- Moving through simple harmonic progressions securely
- Matching rhythmic gesture to a syncopated accompaniment
