More about this title

About the Arranger: Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht has shaped American choral music for over three decades as a composer, conductor, and clinician with particular expertise in integrating movement into choral performance. A consistent ASCAP award recipient since 1987, she has published more than 600 choral works and 75 larger ensemble pieces, while conducting honor choirs at prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center. Her career in music publishing spanned decades at major educational houses, most recently as Director of School Choral, Vocal, and Elementary Publications for Alfred Music.

Educationally grounded in both music and theater (B.A. from Rollins College), Albrecht earned advanced degrees in drama and accompanying from the University of Miami. She has taught at Oakland University, Jersey City State College, and Meredith College. Her sustained impact on choral education was recognized in 2021 with Distinguished Alumna Awards from both the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Rollins College, where she serves on the Board of Trustees.

Why we love this

This collection delivers exactly what busy directors need: six distinct pieces with varied character and text, all thoroughly classroom-tested, combined into one purchase that cuts both cost and planning time. The mix of texts (from joyful and energetic to contemplative and meaningful) gives you programming flexibility within a single octavo, whether you perform individual pieces throughout the year or present them as a cohesive concert arc.

What to expect

The collection spans an emotional palette from spirited and infectious energy to quiet reverence. You'll hear the brightness of rhythmic jubilation, the gentle accessibility of beloved sacred texts, and the warmth of pieces rooted in folk tradition and meaningful social values.

Who it's for

Directors managing mixed choirs at the middle school through community choir level who need reliable, singable repertoire that engages both singers and audiences. This collection works equally well for programs built around holiday concerts, spring celebrations, or standing repertoire that rotates across the school year.

How to get the most out of it

  • Recorded accompaniments provide solid rhythmic anchors, especially valuable when rehearsal time is limited; use them to help singers lock ensemble attacks and maintain consistent tempo across the six pieces.
  • Explore Albrecht's signature movement integration as an option; even subtle choreography can elevate audience engagement and help singers connect physically to the text and music.
  • Sequence the pieces strategically within your program to create emotional variety; pairing energetic selections with reflective ones maintains audience interest across the full performance.
  • Differentiate vocal demands by piece when assigning singers; some arrangements sit comfortably across a broader range, while others benefit from careful voice placement.

How to use it

Build a complete concert around these six pieces as a ready-made program, or distribute them across multiple performances throughout the year, using the varied tempos and moods to anchor different concert themes. The mix of secular and sacred-adjacent texts makes this set flexible for holiday programs, spring concerts, community service events, or any setting where you need proven repertoire that singers will enjoy learning.

Skills your students will build

  • Balancing dynamic control across contrasting pieces (bright, energetic selections paired with reflective ones)
  • Ensemble cohesion through recorded accompaniment cues and rhythmic precision
  • Text communication and emotional authenticity across multiple genres and moods
  • Sustaining vocal health and consistent tone quality across extended rehearsals and performances of varied repertoire
